The Perodua Myvi is by far the most popular car in Malaysia, consistently topping the vehicle sales chart in our country. Given the vast amount of Myvis there are on the road, more often than not, the hatchback is involved in bizarre situations and its drivers given an unwanted negative stereotype due to the actions of a few.
Well, recently, a Perodua Myvi has gone viral yet again, but this time due to a rather unique modification to its steering wheel by its owner. Shared by the DashCam Malaysia on Facebook, a video of a Myvi with a racing steering wheel that would even make F1 race cars envious has gone viral.
As of the time of writing, the video has gotten over 390k views and garnered more than 4.5k likes and 983 shares. In the video, the owner can be seen driving her Myvi one-handed with the modified steering wheel that has its top half cut off similar to the one found in racing cars.
However, the video sparked debate from commenters who said that the modification is not safe. Many argued that the modified steering wheel makes it harder to steer the car, especially during emergencies.
As reported by Lobak Merah, a netizen commented that the steering would work well during casual driving, but during emergencies, it would be dangerous given there are less of the steering wheel to grip at. Furthermore, the commenter said that this type of steering wheel is used in racing cars because you don’t need to steer more than 90 degrees at a race track.
Hence, for a car that you use daily that requires you to manoeuvre more than 90 degrees, for example when making a u-turn or when parking, it is simply not safe.
Well, if for some reason you’re interested to do a similar modification to your car, the Myvi owner said that the modification cost her around RM2,500. However, we strongly advise against you to replicate this.
