3 Individuals Arrested After Attempting To Force Their Way Into Singapore From M’sia

Singaporean authorities yesterday arrested two men and one women on a Malaysian-registered vehicle after they attempted to evade arrival immigration clearance at Tuas Checkpoint. The vehicle had earlier evaded departure clearance at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar in Johor Bahru at about 2.15am and was being pursued by our country’s traffic police when the vehicle reached Tuas Checkpoint.

As reported by CNA, the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that the vehicle was spotted by an auxiliary police officer as it was speeding towards Tuas Checkpoint. The officer then immediately activated alarm and the checkpoint was locked down immediately.

Seeing that Tuas Checkpoint was in lock down, the driver tried to force his way into Singapore by crashing through the automated motorcycle clearance lanes. However, the lanes were too narrow and the vehicle was incapacitated after crashing into the immigration counters.

The crash caused injuries to an ICA officer on his right ankle but the driver was later detained. However, the two passengers in the vehicle, a Chinese national and a Vietnamese woman who allegedly have no valid travel documents, attempted to flee the scene by foot. Nevertheless, both were intercepted by auxiliary police and detained.

As for the driver, preliminary investigations by ICA showed he was wanted by the police and the Central Narcotics Bureau. The man was also allegedly in possession of a tampered Singapore passport and a preliminary urine test showed that he tested positive for drugs.
