Every Malaysian generally loves Roti Canai and it’s suitable for breakfast and lunch, dinner, and even supper! The recent price hike in flour has led to an increase in the price of Roti Canai in most places, but not this vendor in Kuala Terengganu.
50 cents for a piece of Roti Canai
India’s recent decision to ban wheat export may have also contributed to the rise in flour prices but that will not stop a 52-year-old Rohaizan from maintaining the original price of his Roti Canai at only 50 cents per piece!
Rohaizan, who has been running his Roti Canai stall at an industrial zone in Kuala Terengganu since last year has a very good and heartwarming reason as to why he decided to stick to his original price.
“I pity my customers. It will increase their burdens if I mark up the price of the Roti Canai,” he said.
Typically, a piece of Roti Canai is sold at a price of between RM1.20 to RM1.50. Rohaizan said 80 cents to RM1 for a piece of Roti Canai is still common but for it to reach RM1.50 or more is unacceptable.
His customer also told him that at times like these, it is NOT easy to look for Roti Canai places that sell the food as cheap as him.
“I hope this price will maintain forever, for my customers”
Despite the continuously increasing price of goods, he said that he has no plans to increase the price of his Roti Canai anytime soon.
In terms of profit, Rohaizan admitted that 50 cents for a piece of Roti Canai will not earn him a lot but as long as it’s enough to support his life, then he has nothing to complain about.
“I don’t get much profit but as long as I can cover my living expenses and pay my children’s school fees, then it’s enough.”
He also hopes to keep this current price forever to not elevate the burdens of his customers.
Aside from Roti Canai, Rohaizan also sells chicken, beef, and sardine Murtabak at the price of RM5 for 3 pieces.
