From Quirky Dish Names on Apps To Wordless in-Store Menu, This ‘Cincai’ Restaurant in SS15 is So Unique!

We all know how bad business has been hit since the pandemic started in early 2020. While everyone tries to get back on their feet, a little publicity can always help.

A restaurant in SS15, Subang Jaya called Cincai Cafe has been making the rounds on Twitter for their creative and funny dish names and descriptions on food delivery apps.

When asked by a netizen if their in-store menu is equally as funny, Cincai Cafe stated that they do not use words for their in-store menus anymore.

“Now we’ve completely removed all of the words. We just cincai draw and hope people can understand our drawing.”

As a small and humble eatery that first opened its doors to customers in September 2018, Cincai Cafe only had an Instagram presence and is not even active on the platform.

However, since gaining popularity on Twitter overnight, the owner of the restaurant, Nigel, felt prompted to create an account for the restaurant and to return the eagerness netizens are showing for his business.

Luckily for us at WORLD OF BUZZ, Nigel, who is also the man behind the restaurant’s witty menu, agreed to have a little chat with us about his business and its new found online fame (that we hope will also lead to in-person fame?!)

When asked what inspired him to have “cincai” as the concept for the business, he replied in a true cincai fashion, “Concept? We’re just a restaurant laa”.

However, in all seriousness, Nigel stated that they just “wanted to cultivate a different approach to food in Malaysia“.

“Somewhere between restaurant culture and mamak culture.”

He added that the concept just made sense as it embodies how Malaysians are super chill, making the restaurant the perfect place to hang out for Malaysians.

While the tweet that went viral showed a photo of their glorious signature Buttahmilk Cheekan dish, we heard that the dish has passed its prime and has been overtaken by a secret dish called Yin Yong.

We still think you should try the Buttahmilk Cheekan though – that yellow gloss coating the chicken looks saucy!

On how he feels about the restaurant’s overnight fame, Nigel said that they are “honestly really thankful and glad that people have found some entertainment from [their] quirky little shop“.

They also have the craziest anniversary celebrations – so if you have not checked them out, maybe it’s time?!

However, do keep in mind that the shop is moving in August!

You can stay up to date with the shop and its move on their Instagram and Twitter accounts.
