“No need to queue” – Most Passport Renewals Must Be Done Online Now, Here’s How

With many borders opening up for tourism, many Malaysians are planning extensive trips overseas to catch up on the years of travel that they have lost out on.

In order to travel, one of the most important things is, of course, your passport.

The Immigration Department has announced that starting 11 May, only certain groups of people are allowed to walk into the immigration offices to get their passports done, these people are:

First-timers,
People above the age of 60,
Children under the age of 13,
Citizens going for Haji,
Students studying abroad ages 21 and below, and
Citizens who have damaged or lost passports.

For those who are not on the list, you would have to renew your passports online through this link.

After going to the link, you would have to scroll down to click on ‘setuju’ to proceed. From here on, we recommend taking out your old passport to serve as a reference.

You will then be redirected to upload a passport picture of yourself with a white background and no shadows. However, there seem to be quite a few criteria so it’s better for you to just go to a studio and get it professionally taken.

After you upload your picture, you will need to check the details and put in your email address. Then, you can pay by using either FPX, debit card, or credit card online. Remember to keep the receipt!

The fees for those between the ages of 13 -59 are RM200 while for the elderly it is RM100.

The passport will be available after 3 working days and you will be notified via email. If you did not receive an email, you can go to the office after 3 working days to collect it.

When you’re going to pick up the passport, you must pick it up yourself as it is your personal document! Remember to bring your IC, old passport and payment receipt along. For those who are under 18, they would need to go with a guardian and bring along their birth certificate.

Some offices in the Federal Territories, Johor, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka have extended their working hours to 10pm while all passport issuing offices are open mid-day on Saturdays, you can check the details here.

Well, this is certainly way easier and we wouldn’t need to take leave just to renew our passports!
