“This is saddening” – M’sians Slam DSV’s Raya Song MUAH MUAH RAYA For its Cultural Inaccuracies

Raya is finally here and the celebration of the festive season this year hits differently as interstate travel was not allowed in the previous 2 years.

Prior to this eventful celebration, local music performers have released their very own unique versions of Raya songs. It was only a matter of time before cosmetics entrepreneur, Dato Sri Vida released her Raya song and last Friday (29 April), Malaysians finally got the chance to listen to her Raya song and watch the music video.

The reception, however, is negative. Heads up! There are a lot of kisses incoming!

Farewell, Malay culture & Raya vibes

Vida’s latest single is entitled MUAH MUAH RAYA and features DSV herself, as well as other dancers in heavy make-up and pink attires. MUAH MUAH RAYA runs for slightly more than 5 minutes and so far, Malaysians on Instagram are NOT impressed.

“Oh my god. It saddens me to see this.”

“Just stop ruining the beauty of Ramadhan.”

“I appreciate the art of drag but this is just not it.”

“Gone. The Malay culture is gone. Aliff Syukri was just criticised for his Raya song, and now, men in female dresses?”

We checked out its reception on YouTube

So we decided to survey on the reception of MUAH MUAH RAYA on YouTube. The reception is similarly negative and the criticisms mostly go to the context of the songs, as well as the appearance of DSV and the dancers.

“This song should not be out on the radio. It’ll cause the driver a heart attack.”

“You’re ruining the Malay culture, the holy month of Ramadhan and Syawal. This not how we celebrate Raya!”

“The chorus is nice but…”

‘There are creativity, appreciation, Raya vibes and also stupidity. 2 marks from me.”

You can watch and listen to MUAH MUAH RAYA below.

Have you heard DSV’s MUAH MUAH RAYA and are you a fan of it? Do you think the song captures the Raya vibes or is it a far cry from the festive season that we’re used to?
