It was a sad moment when Mohd Syamsu Izani Yaacob had to watch his daughter sit for her SPM examination in a wheelchair due to a neurological disorder.
According to Sinar Harian, the 41-year-old father said that his daughter, Saniha, suffered from a neurological disorder last December 2020, but still insisted on sitting for the examination despite her condition.
He said that he could not anticipate what was going on in Saniha’s mind, but believes her mental strength will help her to complete the entire examination.

“My eldest child cannot walk properly or stand for too long after receiving treatment at a Kuala Terengganu hospital last year,” he said.
“The situation occurred after the hospital took a spine sample fluid to identify the cause of her headaches and frequent fainting spells which she had been experiencing since last February. She suffered neck pains following the procedure.”
On the first day of the SPM examinations (22 February), Mohd Syamsu, who works as a bulldozer driver, asked permission from SMK Seri Bukit Puteri to allow him to bring his daughter into the exam hall to sit for her Bahasa Melayu Paper 1 and 2.

He expressed his concerns that she would not be able to answer the exam papers as she has not been focusing on her studies due to her illness.
“I am also not sure to what extent Saniha can answer questions because all this time Saniha has not been able to focus on her studies due to her health problems, and even during face-to-face school recently, she was unable to attend,” he said.
Mohd Syamsu said Saniha was determined to sit for the examination this year as she wanted to further her studies in university.
Saniha, the eldest of two siblings – Muhammad Hilman, 15, and Safawati, 13, is one of the 86 candidates from SMK Seri Bukit Seri Bukit Puteri sitting for the 2020 SPM examination.
Saniha’s dedication and strength towards her education is an example for all of us to never give up. We wish her all the best.
