Individuals who fail to provide their identification cards (IC) during police inspections are deemed to be violating the law, and can be fined up to RM20,000 or imprisoned up to three years, or both.

In a statement released on the PDRM portal, DIG Deputy Chief of National Police, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani pointed out that there have been certain online media that claim that PDRM does not have the right to arrest individuals who fail to bring or submit their IC during inspections.

However, he said that this is goes against the provisions under the National Registration Act 1959 (Act 78) and Regulation 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations (PPPN) 1990.

He added that individuals can be arrested without a warrant under the same regulation and can be punished.

Acryl Sani reminded the public to always bring along their identification documents as required under Regulation 6 of the PPPN 1990.

“The public should also give their cooperation to the police when inspections are being conducted,” he added.
