It doesn’t matter if you’re working from home or studying from home, many of you are bound to be familiar with the Google Meet application. It is easy to use and has a very basic layout which makes it fool-proof. Heck, even people who don’t normally use technology, like elderly groups, use the app to stay in touch with their friends and family.
Recently, WORLD OF BUZZ stumbled across the pricing page for Google Meet and was surprised to see that users who do not pay might have their hours limited to only one hour for their group calls at the end of June. This might be good news to those who have very long-winded bosses but it is certainly inconvenient to refresh the call every hour.
This one-hour restriction will be effective starting 28 June 2021. According to the website, it is said that “Gmail users will have unlimited free group calls (three or more people) on meet.google.com through June 28th. After that, users will need to upgrade for web-hosted group calls longer than 60 minutes.”
Following a report by The Verge, Google wanted to implement this 60-minute restriction twice but it was pushed back both times. Google Meet was made accessible to all from April 2020 and they first wanted to implement the one hour limit in September 2020 but it was then pushed back to March 2021. Come March 2021, it was pushed back to late June instead.
With so many of us being separated from our loved ones during MCO 3.0, we hope Google will continue their pattern of postponing the implementation of the time limit for at least a couple more months.
