Taking to Twitter, architect @HudaMahmud79 tweeted her response to a recent uproar amongst Malaysians that a hospital parking lot is no place to house patients.
In her tweet, she explained that the military hospital in question was well equipped to handle such emergencies.
In the original tweet published by @KL_Reporter, Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tengku Mizan is designed for emergency use, equipped with oxygen, suction and power plugs at each column.
Supporting the tweet, @HudaMahmud79 writes, “Parking lots are designed to handle emergency situations like this.”
“Other than available power outlets, suction and oxygen facilities, the height of parking lots also play a role.”
One netizen commenting on the tweet remembered how the very same parking lot was used to house SARS patients.
“The hospital design is 20 years old and its purpose is now a reality. It was temporarily used during SARS for a short period of time.”
“For the first time ever, we get to witness emergency architecture in action.”
“It is good that the Defense Ministry had this when they planned the building. When it is no longer used as a makeshift ward, it can be converted back into a parking lot.”
Let’s hope that this conversion will help ease the burden of ERs around the country. Kudos for thinking ahead guys.
