With the current basikal lajak case still running hot in the news and online, old videos are resurfacing in an effort to showcase the dangers of mosquito bike activities on the roads.
One of the old videos that has been circulating on Facebook showcases the Unit Khas Van Jenazah (UKVJ) team stopping kids from racing their mosquito bikes, putting them inside their funeral van and urging them to lie down in a coffin in an effort to scare them straight. This video was from February 2020.
The Amazing Sarawak Facebook page recently took to their profile to share the video.
To justify their actions, UKVJ wrote, “Problems that we need to address together, as parents and as a society. The worrying aspect is if we allow our children to approach crime bit by bit by breaking existing rules.”
In the video, they explained that they were carrying out the operation to raise awareness among children who take part in basikal lajak activities. The operation was held at 2:20am.
Some of the children showcased in the operation had cycled from Kampung Dato Harun all the way to Klang, where they were caught.
The UKVJ team then placed the children in the funeral van, right next to a coffin, as they explained to the children that they wanted them to be aware of the risks and consequences of their bicycle racing activities.
While some of the children cried in fear of seeing the coffin and promised to repent, some of the older children were not as fearful and denied taking part in racing the bikes.
“Not with the coffin!” one kid cried.
