On 29 April, the Ministry of Higher Education said that students in higher education institutions all over Malaysia except Sarawak will be able to travel interstate to go back home for Hari Raya festivities.
Later on, it was announced by the National Security Council (MKN) that students of boarding schools and vocational colleges (under the Ministry of Education) situated in EMCO areas will not be able to go home for Hari Raya this year.
“No guests or outside visitors will be allowed in during the EMCO. All physical schooling and co-curriculum activities have been put to a halt.”
However, for emergency cases such as illness or death, students are allowed to leave the premises provided they have permission from PDRM, or alternatively, their family representative could contact the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD).
As for students that are allowed to go back to their homes in areas under MCO or CMCO, the National Security Council has agreed that the institution will have to prepare transportation for the students to travel interstate if there are more than ten students going.
All students are also required to undergo a health screening before boarding a vehicle provided by the school. They have to be sanitised, always wearing a face mask and adhering to the SOPs set throughout the journey at all times for health management purposes, reported BERNAMA.
In addition, only healthy students are allowed to return to the hostel provided they and their family members who are living in the same household are not in quarantine or are close contacts of Covid-19 positive individuals. They are also required to submit a health declaration form.
